Keeping your Playground Cool

How do you Keep a Playground Cool?

Playgrounds are popular all year round due to their very nature and are used by schools virtually every day. However during a hot day they can heat up very quickly becoming very difficult to use. Children also heat up far more quickly than adults and have more trouble regulating their temperature than adults do. This article explains the reasons why this is and also explains that children are likely to suffer from a heat related illness far more easily than an adult. As a result of this it's important that playgrounds are designed with this in mind.

How to Keep your School Playground or Park Cool?

Some of the ways that you can help keep a playground cool including planting trees to create shade, adding some water elements (these will also add play value and sensory play to your outdoor space too. Morti Sport & Play have a wide range of water elements to suit any space. We offer our water elements in a variety of materials including Robinia Hardwood and Stainless Steel.

Shade sails and canopies are also a wonderful way of keeping the rays away whilst children enjoy the outdoors. Morti Sport and Play offer a large range of different sizes and style of canopy to suit any space. Some of our designs include water play and pulleys within the same piece of equipment which helps to minimise it's footprint. This means that all school playgrounds or parks can look to include this within their play space.

It's worth considering looking for play structures that have covered play towers if the playground is particularly exposed to the sun. We have a large range of these in different types of material, ensuring that these fit into any school playground or park.

Design and Safety

Morti Sport & Play always design playgrounds with safety a key consideration. Falling is often a significant concern on playgrounds. The correct surfacing and understanding of critical fall heights will help to mitigate this risk.

When designing a school playground or park where a stainless steel slide has been chosen we will work with you to ensure that they are facing the optimal position to ensure they do not heat up excessively. We also offer a range of different materials for our slides too.

Excessive heat is also a concern and as children have such tender skin they are much more prone to heat rash and sunburn. High temperatures and exposure to these can also cause dehydration. That's why keeping your playground as cool as possible is also a key part to consider during the design of your school playground or Commercial outdoor space.
