See all categoriesWhat is wooden (robinia) playground equipment?
Wooden playground equipment uses natural timber as its main structural material instead of steel, giving play areas a warm, organic look that settles into parks, woodland and school grounds. Our Eco Collection is built from robinia (false acacia) — one of the most naturally durable hardwoods in Europe, so it resists rot and weathering without chemical treatment. It's the natural choice for sustainability-led schemes, nature play and settings that want timber rather than steel.
The range
With 19 timber units in stock, there's a natural-play piece for every space, age and budget, with prices from £746:
- Multiplay towers & play frames — the Acacia Robinia Play Structure, Play Frame, Play Unit, Adventure and Roofed Play Towers with slides for a natural centrepiece.
- Climbers — the Acacia Rope Pyramid Climber, A-Frame Rope Climber, Power Cube Agility Frame and Horizontal Climbing Bars.
- Swings & rotating play — the Acacia Single-Bay Swing, Acacia Swing, Acacia Nest Swing, Stork's Nest Swing, Acacia Roundabout and Acacia Carousel.
- Early-years & ground play — the Acacia Seesaw, Acacia Bee and Mouse Spring Rockers and the Acacia Square Sandpit.
Why robinia-acacia timber?
Robinia is a dense, close-grained hardwood with excellent natural durability, so it performs outdoors for many years without the preservatives softwoods require. Each piece keeps the timber's natural character — no two are identical — and pairs the wood with colour HDPE detailing, stainless-steel slides, steel-cored PP rope and stainless fixings for a low-maintenance finish.
Built for busy public playgrounds
Our timber range is built from naturally durable robinia-acacia hardwood with three-layer colour HDPE panels, stainless-steel slides, steel-cored PP climbing rope and anti-corrosion, stainless fixings. Every unit is manufactured to the BS EN 1176 playground equipment standard and backed by our standard warranty: 48 months on the whole unit, 10 years on HDPE panels and 15 years on the structure. Impact-absorbing surfacing appropriate to each unit's free-fall height is required, and we can advise on the right surface for your site.
Who installs Morti wooden equipment
Our Eco Collection is specified by primary and secondary schools, nurseries and early-years and forest-school settings, SEND and special schools, local authorities and parish councils, housing developers, holiday parks, farm parks and visitor attractions — anywhere a natural-timber aesthetic is preferred to steel. We're happy to provide the specifications and quotations needed to support a funding bid or tender, including school capital budgets, Section 106 contributions, the National Lottery and local grants.
Frequently asked questions
Is robinia timber treated with chemicals? No — robinia is naturally durable and resists rot and insects without chemical preservative treatment, which is part of its eco appeal.
How long does wooden playground equipment last? Robinia is among the most durable European hardwoods; our timber structures are backed by a 15-year structural warranty with the right installation and routine inspection.
Can I mix timber and steel equipment in one playground? Yes — the Eco Collection is fully BS EN 1176 compliant and sits comfortably alongside our steel ranges; our team can help you plan a mixed scheme.
